A faculty in the university, with roots in the life of the Church.
The Faculty of Orthodox Theology “Saint Dumitru Stăniloae” is part of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași. Since the 2023–2024 academic year it has also offered bachelor's courses at its Chișinău extension.
The office receives visitors at 9 Lozonschi Iordache Street. The faculty library is on the ground floor of University Building T, at 9 Cloșca Street.
A place in the university
Theology in Iași has stayed close to the seminary, the metropolis and the university founded in 1860. After university theological studies resumed, the faculty built its bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes in conversation with the university's other faculties: philosophy, psychology, education and social work. The Chișinău extension continues the same school for applicants from the Republic of Moldova.
What the formation is for
A pastoral graduate leaves for the parish with the study of Scripture, with chant and with a cared-for language. A social-work graduate learns to read a life situation without hurry. A sacred-art student keeps a hand in the tradition of the icon and of heritage. Doctoral research stays tied to these practices, rather than to a discourse set apart from them.
